What was once land has now been submerged under water as flood-hit Pakistan is stretched to near breaking point after being hit by its worst floods in decades.
The floods which began three weeks ago have stranded more than 20 million people. Over 1,600 have died and tens of thousands of villages remain under water. Worse, more heavy rains are expected in coming weeks.
As flood waters begin to recede, the country is left to count the cost. It is on the brink of economic catastrophe after the floods wiped out farmland and ruined infrastructure, with feared losses of billions of dollars likely to set back growth by years... .. . Read more here
